Call for Brussels-based Researchers: Scientists in the Classroom

With Scientists in the Classroom, SciMingo launches a new project for Brussels-based researchers. Would you like to learn how to translate your research into something children truly understand, remember, and get excited about? We will show you how to develop an interactive 30-minute workshop for children aged 10 to 14 - and you will actually deliver this workshop to Brussels children during the weekend school of the fantastic organisation TADA - ToekomstAtelierDelAvenir.

Are you a Dutch-speaking researcher who lives or works in Brussels? And would you like to spark the curiosity of Brussels youngsters for (your) science? Then sign up for Scientists in the Classroom, a brand-new project by SciMingo in collaboration with TADA and BRUZZKet, with the support of Innoviris.

What to expect?

In the free training Explaining Science to Children, part of our SciComm Academy, you will learn how to translate your research into an interactive 30-minute workshop for children aged 10 to 14. During a hands-on training day, you will work on the core ideas of your research and learn how to use storytelling and interactive methods to engage young minds.

In a follow-up feedback session, you will further refine your workshop. Afterwards, you will deliver your own workshop to a weekend school class in Brussels, in collaboration with TADA (ToekomstAtelierDelAvenir), a renowned organisation doing outstanding work in educational projects for children in Brussels.

Why take part?

You will complete the training with a concrete, tested workshop that you can reuse for science outreach initiatives (such as the Children’s University or the National Science Day), school activities, or public engagement projects - as well as with strengthened communication skills that are valuable far beyond academia. You will also receive a certificate of participation from the SciComm Academy.

And most importantly, you act as a role model and help inspire a new generation with your research!

Who can participate?

This training is free of charge and open to Dutch-speaking researchers from all disciplines (from philosophy to chemistry) who live or work in Brussels. No prior experience in science communication is required.

A French-language counterpart of this training will follow at a later stage. French-speaking researchers who are already interested are welcome to contact us at info@scimingo.eu.
